Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about protecting your vehicle\'s value and getting the settlement you deserve.

Diminished Value

Diminished value is the measurable loss in your vehicle's market value that remains even after professional repairs. A vehicle with an accident history on its record is almost always worth less than an identical vehicle with a clean history — regardless of how well the repairs were performed.
You may be eligible if: your vehicle, preferably, is less than 6 years old, repair costs exceeded $1,000, your vehicle had no prior accident history, you were not at fault, and you own (not lease) the vehicle. Eligibility can vary by state, but most third-party claims qualify.
Insurance companies are generally not required to inform you about diminished value. Their focus is on paying for the physical repairs. Most body shops aren't equipped to help recover it either. That's why an independent appraisal is so important.
Every claim is different. Many qualifying claims represent 10% or more of the vehicle's pre-loss market value. Factors like damage severity, structural repairs, OEM vs aftermarket parts, vehicle age, mileage, and market demand all influence the value. Our free estimate gives you a range before you commit to anything.
It starts with a free online assessment that takes just a few minutes. You'll receive an estimated diminished value range with no obligation. If the numbers make sense, you can then order an independent appraisal prepared by a licensed appraiser. We provide a complete demand package you can present to the insurance company.
Your initial estimate is completely free. If you decide to move forward with an independent appraisal, pricing is displayed on our services page. Many customers recover 10–20x the cost of the appraisal.
Every state has a statute of limitations — typically 2 to 6 years depending on your state. View your state's deadline here. We encourage you not to wait, because evidence and market data are strongest shortly after the accident.
In most cases, no. An independent diminished value appraisal and demand letter are enough to negotiate directly with the insurance company. If the insurer refuses to negotiate, we can discuss next steps including small claims court or attorney referrals.

Total Loss & Right to Appraisal

When your insurance company declares your vehicle a total loss, they assign an Actual Cash Value (ACV) — what they believe your vehicle was worth before the accident. If that number is too low, you have the right to dispute it with an independent appraisal.
Common signs include: the insurance company's comparable vehicles don't match yours in condition, mileage, or trim; they're using vehicles from different markets; or the offer simply doesn't reflect what it would cost to replace your vehicle with one of like kind and quality.
Many auto insurance policies include an appraisal clause that gives you the right to hire an independent appraiser if you disagree with the insurance company's valuation. If the two appraisers can't agree, a neutral umpire makes the final decision. This process is binding on both parties.
Results vary, but it's common to see increases of $2,000 to $10,000 or more depending on the vehicle. Luxury vehicles, trucks, and low-mileage vehicles often see the largest increases because insurance companies frequently undervalue them.
We'll guide you through exactly what's needed, but typically: the insurance company's valuation report, your policy declarations page, photos of your vehicle, service records, and any aftermarket upgrades or modifications.
